Union Cemetery
Millheim, Centre County, Pennsylvania, USA
History:
Purchased by the Millheim Cemetery Association in 1857, the one and a quarter acre lot was the earliest public record public cemetery in Penn Township. This cemetery never had a church affiliation. The last recorded meeting of the Millheim Cemetery Association was held on 5 June 1930, and there was no one elected to replace the aging trustees. Now and then volunteers from town would strive to maintain the cemetery, but between times it comes an eyesore.
Years of neglect prompted the citizens of Millheim to seek court action to provide for care of the resting place of their ancestors. Following a declaration of the Centre County Judge Charles C. Brown in 1985 that the property of the Millheim Cemetery Association was abandoned the Borough of Millheim was granted legal ownership. The Property consisted of the land and a trust fund of $3,000.00.
The only extant records are held by the Millheim Funeral Director Steven Neff.
