Reichard Cemetery
Millheim, Centre County, Pennsylvania, USA
Reichard Cemetery was established about 1800 by Joseph Reichard, Jr. as a small cemetery for the use of him and his neighbors. It is probably the oldest cemetery in Penn Township. About 22 interments were made there, including Joseph Reichard, Sr. It is not known when the last interment was made, but one can assume it was probably in the mid- to- late nineteenth century.
In 1955, a Mr. Yearick moved onto the property and commenced farming. Shortly thereafter, he pulled most of the stones out of the ground and stacked them in a heap. Only one stone, a fieldstone marked "A. M.S." was left, and it remained in its original place because it was too deeply imbedded in the soil to be removed. Neighbors and descendants of those interred there took the stones away, one by one, over a period of years.
