According to staff at Saint Mary Roman Catholic Church at 312 Clark Street in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania 16648, there are two St. Mary's Cemeteries in that city.
The OLD St. Mary's Parish Cemetery is located in the town block between Pine and Hickory Streets along Union Street. This land for the burial ground adjacent to the Lutheran Cemetery was purchased in 1846. St. Mary Parish used this land from 1846 and then jointly by St. Mary and St. Michael Parishes beginning 1862, which was the year of the division of the parishes.
Unfortunately there is not a complete record of burials over the years in the OLD cemetery and the total number of burials is unknown. Local tradition is that the lower part of the cemetery, which contains many unmarked graves, is where men are buried who lost their lives building and maintaining the Allegheny Portage Railroad.
In 1917 Father Patrick Verckcr purchased 20 acres for a NEW St. Mary Parish Cemetery on a hill behind the Penn-Dot building on North Juniata Street for subsequent St. Mary Parish burials.
