From Family Records:
John & Abigail (Apalonia) Mason were from Germany Twp., Fayette Co Pa., where they settled sometime between 1774-1778. John had built a fort on his land there, later known as Fort Mason. Masontown, formerly Germantown, was laid out by John Mason and on 29 May 1778, he & his wife conveyed it by deed to the inhabitants. In 1801, John and Apalonia deeded to the citizens of Masontown, a house and lot for school purposes. Soon after this, John and his wife moved to Columbiana Co. Ohio.
Abigail Mason was the d/o John Nicholas Baker (Becker) and his second wife Marie ___Bayer. (Genealogy of the Baker Family, by Robert Helsley Baker Strasburg, Va 1954) She is mentioned in her father's will in Frederick Co, Va proved 2 March 1763. The service of John Mason (Johannes Maurer) during the Revolution was verified by the NSDAR in Oct 1981.
Peter Rich (b 1776) was the s/o Jacob Rich, Sr., of German Twp Fayette Co Pa. and he is mentioned in Jacob Rich, by Golda V Peckham Suttie, 1979 in the DAR Library. Peter's marriage is mentioned but not his children. Children of Peter and Elizabeth (Mason) Rich - perhaps incomplete:
