Add Photos"The land was given to Samuel Houston I and wife, Jane Fleming, by James and Elizabeth Fleming in 1791, a large tract of land, according to deed listed in the Iredell County Courthouse, as gift. There was an old Houston Family graveyard on the old Chris Clark homeplace (present owners plowed it up in 1950's) in Iredell County, close to Lake Norman on East side of river."
History of the Samuel Houston Family Cemetery by: Mrs. L.T. Queen states:
"The property on which the old cemetery was located, was sold some years ago, and the area of the cemetery was ploughed over, but its marble tombstones and bases were salvaged, and are stored at the old home site. A number other graves were marked by field stones, but without any inscriptions."
Mr. J. M. Wagner from Statesville, N. C. Desc. of Samuel Houston wrote:
"Location: This family Cemetery of the Samuel Houston (sic) that died in Iredell County, N. C. August, When, 1811 age 80 years was located on the Catawba River on the north-west side of Reedy Creek. It was a mile or so north-west side of Buffalo Shoals, near Long Island, on the Catawba River.

It is presumed that the Clark Family kept track of the relocation of the gravesites. It appears to be only 5 gravestones and an unspecified number of field stones to mark the location of graves.
