The Evangelical-Lutheran Christ Church in Syke belongs to the Syke-Hoya parish in the Osnabrück district of the Evangelical-Lutheran Church of Hanover.
At its location, first there was a half-timbered church, built around 1704. This predecessor church was demolished in 1882, because it became too small for the rapidly growing community. At the same spot, the neo-Gothic brick basilica was built between 1882 and 1885. It was based on a design by Gustav Schwartz. From the former church, it kept the baroque baptismal font from 1677 and an old offering box.
Before the establishment of the so called "Old cemetery Syke" in 1837, the church yard used to be the cemetery for the Lutheran community of Syke. Since then, it was not no longer used as a burial place. Today, four old gravesites from the 18. century are still visible, just next to the Christ Church. Although it is not clear, if these are the original burial places, due to the construction of the church in the 1880's.
At the compound of the church, there is also a memorial for victims of Nazism und Antisemitism during 1933 – 1945. It was designed by the artists Henning Greve and Elsa Töbelmann and commemorates the names of jewish residents of Syke who were mudered.
