St Charles Borromeo

St Charles Borromeo church is a grade II listed building, constructed by the 15th Duke of Norfolk in 1858. It is the heart of the family of the Catholic church in Hadfield and surrounding area. The 15th Duke of Norfolk Edward George Howard, 1st Baron Howard of Glossop (1818-1883) retired from the House of Commons and built this fine new Roman Catholic Church in Hadfield, dedicated to St Charles Borromeo, where he and his descendants have since been buried. The vault at St Charles's contains the remains of the First, Second and Third Barons Howard of Glossop with their wives and sundry other members of the Glossop line, to a total of fourteen persons.
