Add PhotosNonnewaug was buried under an apple tree near Nonnewaug Falls. It was in a plain at the foot of the falls (Nonnewaug Falls). There was a mound at the spot. It was the largest mound in the area, distinguishing Nonnewaug's grave from the others around him (described as being about four feet high, six feet wide, and ten feet long)...yet, the mounds were removed after the owner of the land years later plowed the field.
Mentioned in the book titled, "History of Ancient Woodbury, Connecticut, From the first Indian deed in 1659 to 1854, including the present towns of Washington, Southbury, Bethlehem, Roxbury, and a part of Oxford and Middlebury", Volume 1, page 88, by William Cothren, published in 1854...and also in the book titled, "History of Ancient Woodbury, Connecticut, From the First Indian Deed in 1659 to 1872, including the present towns of Washington, Southbury, Bethlehem, Roxbury, and a part of Oxford and Middlebury", Volume 2, page 884, by William Cothren, published in 1872.
