Add PhotosOn 9 April 1800 (F:164) Andrew Stickles and his wife, Mary quit-claimed to Peter Drake 76 ½ acres "part of the estate of Joshua Drake, left to Peter Drake, Mary Stickles, and Hannah Taylor, wife of Henry Taylor." In deed (F:185), Peter Drake sold this land to Samuel Hill Sr., and Peter, Hannah, and Mary are called children of Joshua Drake. On 18 February 1804 (L:139) Andrew Stickles bought 33 acres of the estate of Joshua Drake from Peter. Andrew died sometime in 1805 when the inventory of his estate was dated 5 November 1805. His widow, Mary married 8 January 1808 (Sussex County marriage record) John Hendricks. On 19 August 1812 (Z:184), Susanna Drake, widow of Joshua Drake, conveyed her dower rights in the 33 acres to John Hendricks and Mary his wife, late Mary Stickles, and Joseph Hibler. The same day, John Hendricks and Mary, administrators of the estate of Andrew Stickles, sold the tract (now called 35.26 acres) to Joseph Hibler (Z:183). Mary died 10 October 1855, aged 76 years. On 24 November 1856 Joshua Drake Stickles sold a 1/4 interest in a 60 acre tract "on east side of highway from Newton to Andover, in occupancy of David W. Stickles" to Henry Hart (S4:582), the deed stating that this is his interest in the estate of Margaret Hendricks, his mother. The reference to Margaret Hendricks, is evidently an error and should have read Mary. On 3 April 1858 (V4:322) a 3/4 interest in a 64.46 acre tract, which is most likely the same as the 60 acre tract, is sold to Henry Hart by Daniel Steele and his wife Susan, Charles Stickles and his wife Clarissa, and David W. Stickles (Susan, Charles, and David were children of Andrew Stickles and Mary Drake). This last deed excepts out "twenty feet square for a graveyard, where the graves now are." The Drake farm was in present Andover township, mostly on both sides of route 206 and both sides of the Pequest River, a little south of Springdale. The part retained by Mary Hendricks was on the west side of 206 and south of the Pequest.
