This cemetery is now under the care of the South Sea Islander Community with a memorial garden in a natural bushland setting created. A memorial board displays the names of those interred here, however, this may be incomplete. From the 1870s burials here also included Indigenous, Chinese and Asian. It is not known who is buried in each grave as the individual markers were lost many years ago. In the mid 1990s this portion of the Bundaberg General Cemetery was set aside for historical and cultural purposes. The heritage listed South Sea Islander Church and Hall was moved to this site in 1995. This cemetery was previously under the control of the Bundaberg Cemetery Trustees followed by the Bundaberg City Council.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people should be aware that this virtual cemetery may contain images or names of deceased persons. Some material contains terms that reflect those of the period in which it was recorded, but may not be considered appropriate today. It is provided in an historical context.
