Add PhotosIn the 1840s, efforts arose to erect a Methodist Episcopal chapel in the village of Unionville. Subsequently, December, 1839, trustees Lewis Taylor, George Hall, Mifflin Baily, Elihu Baily, John Baldwin Samuel Pancoast and Alban Hook purchased a lot of land on the Unionville-Wawaset state road from Hayes and Elizabeth Jackson to build their edifice and establish a burial ground. The church became known as the Harmony M.E. Church or the Harmony Meeting.
The burial ground was used for almost 50 years, during which time a number of veterans of the 124th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, were buried there. But the church itself was not particularly successful. So the trustees offered the church for sale in 1885. Family members were notified to remove the relatives from the grounds by October 15th. Some were removed to Norristown, some to Coatesville, and some elsewhere.
Finally, in 1890, the property was purchased by Lydia J. Seal. The old burial ground was leveled for a lawn. No trace remains today.
