On March 1, 1920, married couple Bernard (Steigelfest) and Regina (Einhorn) Bernhard purchased the 59-acre Springer-Little Farm located on the southwest corner of Upper Pike Creek Road and Old Coach Road from Arthur and Martha Maclary. The only building on the property was a house built in the 1860s so the family built a new house. However, the couple and their children continued to live in their home in Rutherford, New Jersey. It's unknown if the property was used as a summer home, was rented out, or the family was waiting to move in after the house was built. In 1921, Bernard died at home and was buried in Mount Calvary Cemetery in White Plains, New York (The Bernhard Family originally lived in New York City after Bernard and Regina immigrated from Germany and Romania, respectively). Regina moved to the farm in the mid-1920s and rented the rest of the property to farmers. The rest of the children continued to live in North New Jersey or moved to New England.
At some point, Bernard was reinterred on the family property. Regina was buried next to him when she died in 1959. Their children Harold and Cecelia, their children's spouses, and descendants were later interred there. The cemetery is currently owned by Arnold Bernhard & Co, Inc, the parent company of Value Line which was founded by Arnold Bernhard - Bernard and Regina's eldest child.
