Add PhotosMount Pisgah African Methodist Episcopal Church was organized at the home of Richard Berry at 4100 Ludlow Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1833. Later, they joined with Richard Allen and his Bethel Church. A lot was purchased and a frame structure was erected on Locust Street near 40th Street. The Mount Pisgah African Methodist Episcopal Church was incorporated in April 1847.
Though its members were largely buried at the nearby Harmony burial ground, some evidence suggests that before construction of a new stone church in 1867-68, the congregation used a portion of its lot for a graveyard.
In the early summer of 1942, the church moved to its present location at 428 North 41st Street.
