The Old Los Gatos Cemetery (Defunct) was located on the southeast corner of what is now the intersection of Highway 9 and N. Santa Cruz Avenue. It should not be confused with Los Gatos Memorial Park which is on Los Gatos-Almaden Road in San Jose.
The Old Los Gatos Cemetery dates back to the 1860s when a local farmer named Mason donated the land for a burial ground. By the 1880s, the cemetery was nearing capacity and had nowhere to expand due to the growth of the town. A cemetery association was formed to establish a new cemetery, which became Los Gatos Memorial Park. In 1890, the town of Los Gatos passed an ordinance prohibiting any more burials at the old cemetery. Many remains from the old cemetery were re-interred at Los Gatos Memorial Park between 1890 and 1924, but an unknown number were never moved. Cottages were eventually built on the site for housing cannery workers. In the 1940s, a local real estate developer purchased the land and redeveloped it into the Little Village shopping center. Some headstones and caskets were found during the construction of the shopping center and reburied in place.
