Add PhotosThis cemetery is now defunct, and the land it once occupied is now largely built over with various industrial building, pavement, and parking lots, but some unpaved sections still remain (all on private property). Associated with the McKendree Methodist Church (earlier known as Hookstown Chapel), the cemetery dates to at least the early 1800s, when Arlington was known as Hookstown, and Reisterstown Road as Hookstown Road.
The cemetery was still visible through the 1950s, and was accepting burials at least until the first decade of the twentieth century. Various historical maps, aerial photographs and written descriptions place the cemetery on the west side of McKendree Place (off Reisterstown Road), across McKendree Place from the current McKendree Methodist Church (built ca. 1894) and extending westward toward Hayward Avenue, and southwest toward the railroad tracks.
Records of burials are found in newspaper obituaries, and in an articles in Vol XIII of the Maryland and Historical and Genealogical Bulletin, pp. 61-62.
With exception of Rev. Henry Smith (moved to Mount Olivet Cemetery, Baltimore City), no records of removals has been found, and it is possible that the graves still remain on the site.
