Located just north of the church St. Andrä, this cemetery opened in 1901. There is a war grave section on the western side of the original cemetery. In 1942 the area was enlarged even further to the west, beyond the Zauchenbach Creek, giving the cemetery now an area of over 5 acres. As of 2022 the cemetery has about 120 burials a year.
A unique feature of this cemetery are its arcades, modern day family crypts, there are 30 of them in the older part, with space for 6-9 interments.
Please note that the graves in Austria are not perpetual. After a certain period of repose (10-50 years in Lienz) the graves are being leveled and re-used. There is no toxic embalming being done in Germany, so the coffin and the corpse can decompose naturally. If the family of the deceased decides to purchase another period, the duration can be extended by another 10-30 years. Otherwise, the grave will be leveled and reused, the marker then used as gravel in road construction. War Graves are considered memorials and are kept up by the owner of the cemetery. Those are kept forever. Also, the town or owner of the cemetery might find a grave of historical significance and will protect and keep it indefinitely.
