From the Greenbank United Cemeteries Board and The Ontario Heritage Foundation's Historical Plaque. "In 1848 a small framed, Free Presbyterian Church was built at the southwest corner of this property - Concession 12, Lot 11 in the Township of Reach. The cemetery was established in 1849 when Peter Spring, the young son of church trustee, Albert Spring, was buried here. Many of the cemetery's earliest internments were immigrants from Scotland and Northern England who were pioneer farmers in the area. They cleared the land, built log houses, raised barns and opened up the countryside. On July 5th, 1858 , 144 square rods were purchased for five shillings from Lawrence and Hannah Van Allen by the church trustees, including Alexander Horne, Alexander Leask, John Leask and Albert Spring, Robert Allen, John Leask and Charlies Rennie were appointed to set out the graveyard February 22nd, 1866. Plots were sold for one pound to church members and two pounds for non-members. In 1879 the church was sold to James Miller for twenty five dollars and moved. A new brick church was completed east of Highway 12, Concession 11 in the village of Greenbank on November 10, 1878. Today this cemetery is name "The Pines" because of the thirty-three pieces going on its well-kept grounds. "
