I'm sure the trees were small enough then to provide a little shade; now, 164 years later, the grove of trees has grown together at the trunks and the headstones have been dislodged from their original positions.

From State Highway J, continue north out of Brashear and follow the bend until a road appears on the left, just before J continues onward. This is Horseshoe Lake Way/Rd 269.
Continue on this road, crossing the North Fork Salt River. The first farmhouse is on the left, then another just down from it a short distance. The third farmhouse in on the right side (north) of the road, and the grove of trees is the big one to the east of the house.
This is PRIVATE PROPERTY!

David M. Pitt, his wife Amanda Rhodes Pitt, and four of their children came to Missouri from Fleming County, Kentucky around 1853. They farmed the land, had four more children, and then after March of 1860, moved to Labette County, Kansas.
