The Kasher Israel Anchae Seward Congregation of McKeesport, Pa." was chartered in 1907, and immediately set about acquiring a burial ground in the nearby borough of Port Vue. The Port Vue Cemetery – known today as the Kesher Israel Cemetery in honor of the congregation that founded it – occupied two lots in the original Port Vue Plan. Roughly triangular in shape, and approximately 2/10ths of an acre in size, it is said that the cemetery was once surrounded by a wooden fence with an archway that presumably marked the entrance. None of the wooden features exist today. Even the inscriptions have essentially disappeared from the 25 stones found there. Ten years after purchasing this property, Kesher Israel purchased a second piece of property within the Elrod group of cemeteries in Versailles, PA. It is believed that burials ceased at the Port Vue Cemetery shortly thereafter. The cemetery, which became known locally as "Old Elrod," was maintained by various individuals through the years. In 2020, the Jewish Cemetery and Burial Association of Greater Pittsburgh (JCBA) assumed responsibility for its future maintenance.
