Photos

The Morancy Plantation originating back to 1837, at times of agricultural propserity encompassed over 2,700 acres of land in close proximity to the Mississippi River at Milliken's Bend. The plantation house which had been moved inland a number of times as a result of flooding, burned to the ground in 1889. Four generations of Morancys were raised, lived, or visited the old plantation. Like other plantations of the time, family members and their slaves were buried on their plantations.

The plantation property located in what is now Tallulah (created in 1857), has changed ownership many times over the years and as a result, either by flooding or agricultural development, evidence of the cemetery has been buried by river sediments and agricultural soils. Cemeteries distant from the plantation have been documented to exist and appear in aeriel mapping, but hve not yet been inventoried and photographed.
