Add PhotosThe Hacienda dates from the 17th century, specifically from 1692. Originally it was built by the Carmelites with the aim of turning it into a monastery, but this never happened because Carlos III of the Marqués de Sierra Nevada granted the concession of the lands to Don Manuel Rodríguez Pinillo y López Monteros, Viscount of San Miguel. So instead of a monastery, it became the resting place of the viceroys and their consorts, as well as the aristocracy of the capital.
In 1776, the Haciendawas acquired by Ramón Goicoechea. At this time it was renamed Hacienda Goicoechea and it became a pulque producing center until in 1906, after having passed through several owners, the 40-hectare property was acquired by San Ángel Land Co., who divided it into a neighborhood called Altavista.
The Hacienda became a hotel and restaurant called "San Ángel Inn" managed by a French woman named Madame Roux, frequented by famous people of the time, such as artists, singers, politicians and intellectuals.
In 1937, the INAH named it a "Colonial Monument" and its then owner, Don Carlos Prieto, began to use the facilities for concerts and courses. From 1955 to 1961 this complex housed the Schools of Art History and Architecture of the Universidad Iberoamericana.
In 1963 a group of investors bought the property and turned it into the "Antiguo San Ángel Inn" restaurant.
