Rosa Lake Cemetery
Manilla Township, Cavalier County, North Dakota, USA
Reportedly about 35 people were buried here including two or three Civil War Veterans, two of whom were Charles LeFevre and Harrison Putnam (natives of Vermont). Others included Susan Ewen who was murdered in 1885 and a large number of children.
The man who donated the land for the church and cemetery did not give a deed to the church. When the land sold, the new owner asked for the removal of the church and cemetery. Only families still living in the area or could afford to have the graves removed did so. With the exception of the Legion who remember to place flags on the graves, the cemetery has been abandoned. Later reports are that vandals have moved the existing stones. R.M.
(*The Spirit Lives On - Osnabrock 1887-1987" says the first church built in Cavalier County was the Rosa Lake Church which later became Osnabrock Methodist Episcopal.)
