Add PhotosWith the establishment of the new dioceses in 1539, the congregation passed over to the Diocese of Bruges, until, with the concordat of 1801, it was included under the diocese of Ghent and the deanery of Eekloo.
The Raveschoot and Balgerhoeke districts, which until then were part of the municipality, were separated from it in 1804 and added to Eekloo.
The church is dedicated to St. Adrian and was rebuilt in 1842, with the exception of the tower, according to the plan of Minard, in a truly untold style. The façade in particular, with its three-sided roof, which completely obscures the tower, so to speak, is so misshapen and disproportionate that it has already been considered to alter this part of the temple.
In the past the Church, like all of that time, stood with the choir facing east, that is to say with the entrance to Maldegem, from where the church path ran flat. The tower was in the middle and the view of Adegem's church must have been quite pleasant. When the church was demolished in 1842, people could convince themselves of its respectable age. The turret , as a remarkable remnant of the Romanesque style of the transition period ( twelfth century ), was wanted to be preserved.
Nevertheless, the tower, which dates from the XII or XIII century, is a remarkable remnant of medieval architecture , and is now listed among the monuments of the third class.
