The first chapel was then constructed in 1710 away from public view. As of this writing, no one seems to know when the first churchyard burial occurred.
In 1841, the present chapel was rebuilt on top of the existing churchyard. This continues under part of the present church building, and a later note in the burial register comments 'there are several bodies buried under the pews". Modifications occurred in the early 1900s followed by the construction of a social hall in 1926. In 1972 the United Reformed Church was formed and this church left behind its congregational roots.
Dwindling numbers led to the closing of the church in 1984 but services continued in the adjacent hall. After some years of disuse of the church building itself, a re-opening celebration in 1991 crowned the strenuous efforts by a few people over five years to repair and restore it, making it again an excellent example of a building of its period.
After extensive fundraising, the church was able to remodel the entrance and church interior in 2019. The remodel created a welcoming and flexible space with access for everyone.
They currently offer Sunday services at 10:30AM and Coffee Mornings on the second Saturday of the month. The congregation choir holds a Clare Community Carol on the second Monday in December.
