Add PhotosMilquatay Pioneer Cemetery was originally a family burying ground started about 1868 on private ranch land, and it was active from the late 1860s to the late 1890s. Following that, it fell into disrepair, having undergone severe damage and vandalism including broken and stolen headstones. The cemetery was eventually restored thanks to the hard work of the Mountain Empire Historical Society, who hosted a rededication in 2018.
BURIALS
Sometimes called Campo's "Boot Hill," this cemetery is the resting place of many early settlers of this area, many whom died horrible deaths at a time when most people here didn't die of old age, but instead from illness, accident, or even murder.
LOCATION
Located in Campo, California, south of Campo Rd. and east of Sheridan Rd. It is located inside the boundaries of the former Camp Lockett Army Base, across a cow pasture from Ortega Cemetery (which is across Sheridan Road from the Old Cavalry Stables).
