Johnston Family Cemetery
Hatton, Lawrence County, Alabama, USA
William Johnston Sr died about 1835. His wife, Elizabeth McGaughey Johnston, and oldest son, John Miller Johnston, preceded him in death in 1819 the same year the church was established. It is believed that all three are buried here though this is awaiting confirmation.
The church was moved in 1823 to the farm of elder John Craig just southwest. In 1845, the church moved a second and final time to the land of William Davis about two miles southwest of this original site. The log church that was built remained there until it closed down in the 1930s. The community and school that grew around it became known as the village of Concord. It is still acknowledged as Concord today on some modern maps though the church and school have long since been demolished and there are now residential homes built upon the site. The Concord Cemetery was probably exhumed and moved to what is now known as the Davis Cemetery on the cotton field owned by Braxton Craig, a descendant of original elder John Craig.
