Between 1811 and 1821 at least 122 people were buried there, including Nathaniel Lucas, a First Fleet convict who became a successful builder. After the site was abandoned due to the height of the water table, the Reverend James Walker requested additional burials there in the 1850's including his own.
The area was turned into a park in the 1950's with the few remaining headstones relocated to the Liverpool Memorial Pioneer Cemetery (St Luke's Cemetery). The Liverpool Apex Club revitalised the park in 1956.
In 2018 plans were made for a redevelopment of Liverpool Apex Park which will include a Memorial Plaza to sympathetically acknowledge its pioneer history. The plans have taken into consideration that the works should have minimal impact on identified archaeology.
