Add PhotosHistory of Lewis County written by Rev. O.G Ragan in 1912. The covered bridge and turnpike are mentioned several times. The Cabin Creek Turnpike was chartered by the Fiscal Court in 1869 and the court authorized the bridge to be built "at William Henderson's" in the Fiscal Court Acts of 1870, Chapter 589.
Further review of the book finds the clear documentation of the name of the builder. The "lattice bridge" mentioned was on KY 10 between Ribolt & Tollesboro. It was the only lattice truss of the three covered bridges to have existed over Cabin Creek in Lewis County. The builder was also heretofore unknown but a Mr. Thoroughman was mentioned at the time of its demolition in 1956. The builder of THIS former bridge has now been identified by contemporaneous research of the Fiscal Court record as Thomas Hinton of Flemingsburg.
The extant Cabin Creek Bridge and the similarly designed bridge on Kentucky 57 between Tollesboro & Concord, replaced in 1947, were built by a "Mr. Bryant of Ohio."
