Add PhotosFrom the caution light in Pine Grove Mills travel 4.5 miles westward on Route 45. Turn left at Gate H of the Penn State University farms and follow the lane to the farm house on the right (office), continue more or less straight past large pavilion building and horse building on the right and up the hill toward a pond embankment. There are signs restricting entrance to the pond area so a stop at the office might be advisable. Park as near the upper side of the pond as you desire to drive. (The "road" becomes worse!) Walk around the upper edge of the pond to the southeast corner and the stone wall is visible in the edge of the trees about 200 feet from the pond.
History of Goheen Cemetery:
John Goheen was given 300 acres of land in Westmoreland County following the Revolutionary War. On his way there he passed through Rock Spring and settled there instead. He was one of the superintendents of the roads for Patton Township in 1799 and a taxpayer of Ferguson Township in 1801. He died in April 1815 and was buried in a small stone-walled enclosure on the farm. Fieldstones marked the graves of John Goheen, his wife Mary Jacobs and four of their children. A monument on Route 45, a little less than . 3 tenths of a mile west of Gate H on Route 45 (beside Gate J to the Penn State University farms), was dedicated by the DAR on 25 April 1931.
