It is the burial ground for 10 children and at least three, perhaps four adults. Among those adults is Archibald Murchie, the prominent photographer who named the new area in 1905 (formerly Glencoe) and was buried there in 1930. Also buried here are members of the Ficke family, early pioneers of the area.
The grounds are overgrown and unkept, but at least fenced. Many of the original site markings are in disrepair making it hard to determine specific grave sites. Some of the headstones are illegible, as a result of many years of weathering. The reason why mostly children were laid to rest here, beginning in 1911, is that adults were mostly sent to the Peachland Cemetery. The Spanish Flu is the likely cause of death for a number of the children buried here.
This site is now included in the West Kelowna heritage register. Hopefully this will facilitate some restoration and preservation of the site. The Glenrosa Cemetery is closed for new interments.
