Opened in 1815, Combe Down's Union Chapel remains an active, independent church to the present day. The small burial ground runs in front of and to the side of the original church buildings. A portion is now beneath a church hall (burials protected by building the hall on a platform) and the remainder is grassed over. There were a total of 212 burials in an estimated 124 graves. The earliest burial dates to 1828. The last burial was in 1916. Plot # references are given by Bath Burial Index but it is unclear how these relate to the layout of the burial ground as no plan is provided.

Although the church was established by the joint efforts of the Argyle Street Congregational (Independent) and Somerset Street Baptist churches of central Bath, neither was responsible for the running or maintenance of the chapel, seeking only to establish a place of Christian worship to serve the growing community centred on Combe Down's quarrying industry. Their unity in the project is reflected in the chapel's name.
