Add PhotosIt should be noted that Forest was incorporated in 1859, became a village in 1872 and a town in 1888. There was an old burial ground in Forest prior to the opening of the Anglican and Bradley Cemeteries. It was located on the same lot as the Bradley Cemetery and on the lot next to the Anglican Cemetery. It is assumed that the earliest of Forest's pioneers were buried in the old burial ground.
In January 1957, it was decided the land was needed for other purposes and the Town of Forest applied under section 35 of the Cemeteries Act for an order to officially close the cemetery and to have the bodies removed. This request was granted on July 25, 1957 and reinterments were supposed to be made to Beechwood Cemetery. There is no indication of "unknown" remains being moved to Beechwood. Some of the tombstones were moved to Beechwood Cemetery in Forest. It is indicated on one of the records that the tombstone was moved to Beechwood Cemetery but the not the bodies. In many cases there is no evidence of reinterments at Beechwood Cemetery or of any unknown or mass burials that relate to the closing of this cemetery.
Many of the tombstones were taken away by local residents when the town decided to build a curling club in late 1971 and completed by December 15, 1971 when the official opening took place. Some tombstones were used as sidewalks on private properties. There are pictures and a record of inscriptions off of a few of these. There is no record of what happened to these remains.
Some of the early burial records of the Anglican Church contain references to plot numbers. There is no map of this cemetery and the church doesn't have one.
