REMOVED TO BRAYTON CEMETERY (WK034)
This cemetery no longer exists in its original location. It was removed from behind #2215 Elmwood Ave. to make way for elderly housing in the 1950s. The gravestones were laid flat on the ground and a granite monument was erected that reads "Here lie the remains of the Hammond Prophet family, removed from the cemetery in Norwood." The original cemetery was 75 ft. x 50 ft. with twenty-three graves. James N. Arnold visited this lot 19 Sept. 1890: "On the east side of Sand Pond a burial yard of colored people, neglected. Another a few rods from Apponaug-Greenwich Rd." He found six slate and eleven marble stones. It was recorded again in 1938 by Charles and Martha Benns, who numbered it their #928. The Lippitts and Daileys are descendants of the Pequot tribe. Recorded by John Sterling for a 1997 book on Warwick cemeteries.
