Add PhotosAbout two and one-half miles southeast of State Line City in Warren County north of intersection 950 South and 1000 West was the old Tippecanoe Indian Trail, which ran from Vincennes to Tippecanoe. This was the same trail William Henry Harrison used in 1811 on his march to and from the Battle of Tippecanoe. The trail ran through the dooryard of the house near the intersection and continued north a half mile to where Harrison camped and two of his soldiers were buried. The gentle slope facing east is known as Gopher Hill. The Nathaniel Butterfield family settled there in 1822. Nearly all the family died of cholera in 1845 and five members of the family were buried in the Old Gopher Hill Cemetery which no longer exists.
