After the first U.S. Army Fort Washington was destroyed by it's own garrison in 1814, work was began 12 days later on the new fort to be completed in 1824 and abandoned in 1939.
The post burial register lists two burials.
Of the post cemetery in 1879 the following was recorded:
Close to the Fort. No dates, wet, and some coffins exposed to the weather. New cemetery not completed-no interments in it-one mile from post. There are nine graves near the post, but no marks to identify them.
