Add PhotosGatling Road Cemetery based on exactly
"where" it is located; on Gatling Road,
where the Goodman Homestead Farm was located.
Why? Because this property had absolutely Nothing "historically" to do with the
"Gatling" Family themselves at all.
These vast acreage's of land belonged to:
SOLOMON GOODMAN. When he died, he left all of his
acreage's of land to his two surviving sons
at his death, who were Charles Hood Goodman,
and William Ernest Goodman.
Solomon "specifically"
decreed that he and his wife Mary
(some refer to as Everett and other's
as Mary Edwards-Solomon were to be buried in
designated plots on this land.
Solomon went on to express in writing,
that if his sons wished, they could
designate additional land space for
burial to accommodate the burials
of others of their family members if they so wished.
Charlie and William clearly did exactly that.
So now, the question becomes, how did this
Cemetery come to be "erroneously" assumed
to be referred to be called the "Gatling"
family Cemetery?? I say that it is possibly
because of "where" it is "Located," ...
on Gatling Road!
This is where the Goodman Homestead
family farm is located; it's less then a
mile from Sunbury Road,
and the Town is called Sunbury, in the
Township of Hunter Mill .
Out of "habit," descending family
members and Funeral Homes began to refer to
this Cemetery as the Gatling Cemetery out of
assumptions and merely based on the
Road where it is located.
The question becomes .. did the Goodman
brothers, either Charlie or William ever sell any
portions of their inherited lands to members of
the Gatling Family?? I doubt it; however, this
is a question that only the descendants
of the "Goodman" children can answer.
Charlie Goodman died in 1949, and William died
in 1965. Who inherited their Lands after they
passed away and what was done with it?
Both of the Solomon Goodman heirs are buried here
along with their parents.
Solomon Goodman had one daughter that
married into the Gatling Family, and that was
Anna Amelia Goodman, She married
Charles A. Gatling, so it makes you wonder
exactly how the Gatling Family reference
came about.. The fact remains it was after
the death of the "Goodman" brothers and heirs.
Both brothers outlived Anna Amelia.
Anna Amelia Goodman-Gatling-Jordan is also
buried here. But that does Not make this the
Gatling Family Cemetery. It only indicates
that some of her descendants are possibly
buried here.
It's the Goodman Family Cemetery located on
Gatling Road. Now anybody feel free to try to
prove me wrong! :-)
