This is a family cemetery that was on land once owned by Jesse M & Elizabeth "Eliza" (Reynolds) Forester. They owned a Cotton Gin so had a lot of traffic over their way back in their day. At one time this cemetery was located on a bustling road that we were told was a major road from New York, TX to Brownsboro, TX that became less traveled when the railroad passed by the New York community. The remains of wagon ruts that were dug deep into the ground were still visible just outside the barbed wire to the entrance that surrounds the cemetery and pointed out by our guide. The land was being reclaimed by nature when we visited. At that time (about June 1992), the land the cemetery is situated on had already moved out of the family and into other private ownership. The person taking us to the cemetery the first time had to let the land owner know and to get permission because we had to travel on so much of his property crossing creeks and opening gates as we traveled in an old truck. This was the most complicated trek to a cemetery we've ever had and the only time we needed a personal guide. Our dear cousin, Tim Forester, about age 85, was our guide and took us to visit the cemetery. In this cemetery rests Jesse M Forester and three of his children from his second marriage to Elizabeth "Eliza" (Reynolds) Forester. Jesse M Forester being the first to be buried in this place in 1872, followed by his daughter, Sarah Catherine "Sally" Forester in 1873, sons James W Forester in 1876 and Abner Darden Forester being the last to be buried there in 1902.
