Search Thorntree Creek Burial Ground:

Exact location not yet researched, but page 14 of the Wardlaw book, below, indicates the hoem was located between the Lower Bridge of Black River and Murray's Ferry on the Santee River. But it may be the same as Witherspoon Burying Ground.

In the J. G. Wardlaw book, "Genealogy of the Witherspoon Family..." published in 1910, page 26, the name of the cemetery was Thorntree burying ground, on line HERE.

Thorntree Creek Plantation house was moved from the original family site & restored, as detailed, HERE. And, THIS Source says, "James Witherspoon was buried in what is known today as the Witherspoon family cemetery on Thorntree creek about one mile from his home. Many of the graves in this cemetery are marked with large stones which were native to Williamsburgh. The inscriptions of these stones are now obliterated. There are eight stones of a different type which still bear the inscriptions. One of these is the marker of Robert Witherspoon, who wrote the 'Witherspoon Family Chronicle'."
