The address and location of Olive Branch Baptist Church is 326 E. Juniper Street, Wake Forest, NC, 27588. The cemetery is located on both sides of Taylor Street near the intersection N.Taylor Street and E. Walnut Avenue. This cemetery was formerly known as the "Colored Cemetery".
Olive Branch Baptist Church was organized in 1865 when the black congregation departed from their white counterpart, Wake Forest Baptist Church. Meetings for both churches were held on the campus of Wake Forest College and in 1879 the Olive Branch congregation moved to their current location at 326 E. Juniper Avenue. The area where Olive Branch is located was considered the African-American community and is sometimes referred to as the "East End" or "Dubois" Community.
Rev. George W. Harris was the first pastor of Olive Branch Baptist Church, serving from 1865 - 1879. Professor William G. Simmons of Wake Forest College and his wife, Mary E. Simmons deeded approximately one acre to the Olive Branch Baptist Church Trustees for the sum of one dollar. The trustees that entered into that October 15th, 1879 agreement were J.T. Thompson, J.F. Phillips, S.S. Powell, Henry Dunstan, and Joe Gill.
