The Cullen family plot at Hopewell is located under a chestnut tree about 50 yards behind the historic Old Cullen House, located at 27067 Lawson Barnes Road, formerly Hopewell Road. The house dates from 1820.
The property is bounded by Crisfield Highway (SR 413), Old State Road (SR 667), and Lawson Barnes Road to the west and south. (Lawson Barnes Road intersects both SR 413 and SR 667). This was once the crossroads of the rural railroad village of Hopewell, MD, 4 miles northeast of Crisfield.
This plot contains the gravestones of John Cullin Sr. (1793-1876), his wife Martha Ward Cullin (1796-1864), and their children and grandchildren: John L. Cullin, Sallie Cullin, Benjamin Cullin, Charles C. Cullin, John W. Cullin, Sarah Cullin, wife of William T. Cullin, George L. Cullin, and a child George L. Leatherbury.
The cemetery was restored recently, brush removed and headstones cleaned. Footstones were piled up against an old tree stump. There are some broken headstones and missing gravemarkers, but for its age, this plot is in pretty good condition.
