Gill Family Cemetery

This cemetery is located in the SW quarter of the SW quarter, Sec 12 T15S R3W. This property was included in an 80 acre parcel of land originally purchased by James Poteet in May 1824. It is unknown how long he owned the property.
From the ACPA site:
The (ACPA) refers to this cemetery as the Gill/Rogers Family Cemetery.
There are (5) identifiable graves that are marked, only one is legible. There are two other sites that appear to be unmarked graves. [K. E. Dooley] talked to a Mr. Rogers who states at one time there were a total of 13 graves there, he thinks that some were destroyed when the old Hwy 31 was built to replace Stouts Road, the old stage coach road.
One of the Gill families in Jefferson County (unknown relationship) ran a stage coach stop on the old Stouts Road and William and James Gill (sons of John and Elizabeth Gill) were famous stage coach drivers in Alabama. Mary Gordon Duffee writes about the Gills in her travels going from Tuscaloosa to Blount Springs Alabama with her family (see Sketches of Alabama-Mary Gordon Duffee)
