Add PhotosThis cemetery is located about 5 miles northeast of Monticello on land owned for many years by Leo and Blanch Bilinski (as of 1991). Travel on Highway 149 to the intersection with Gilley Road. Proceed west for just over three quarters of a mile to a farm field on the left. In the center of the field is a one acre grove of trees which contains the cemetery. The section of farm land is called the cemetery field by the owners, who have never destroyed or altered the cemetery grounds. Mr. Bilinski remembers several grave markings having been present in addition to the above ground graves which were used to inter Joseph Manning.
According to Mr. Bilinski, he was informed that the church burned down 50 to 100 years ago. The cemetery has not been improved or maintained and recent ravages such as a fire have worsened the condition of the cemetery.
In June 1989 the cemetery was located by members of the Association. However, a visit to the site was precluded by the likely presence of snakes and the lack of protective gear. In January 1990 they again visited the site and cleared various areas in an attempt to locate burial sites of ancestors. Although no graves of particular ancestors were located, there was a great deal of information gathered about the site.
"The History of Jefferson County, Florida", published in 1935 and reprinted in 1990, indicates the burial ground was known at the time of original publication and there were graves of many early settlers in the cemetery, including those of Ann and Needham Bryan.
