Salem M. P. Church Cemetery is located on Blackbird Forest Road (RD 471), just South of Oak Hill School Road. It is Northwest of Clayton, DE, and two miles South of Blackbird, DE. The cemetery is just off the road, in a wooded area. The Church was established about 1842, and ceased operations about 1927. The Church building was torn down in the 1940s during World War II, after standing for about 100 years. Residences in the area have a Clayton, DE mailing address.
Salem M. P. Church Cemetery was established about 1844, a few years after the Church was built.
The worn & damaged grave markers from the 1800s are tangible links to the existence of the historic Church site.
This cemetery had some restoration work performed in 2014, by a local Boy Scout troop. John Thomas (1791-1873), a War of 1812 veteran, is buried there.
