Hayes Cemetery #1
Also known as John T. Hayes Family Cemetery
Lake View, Dillon County, South Carolina, USA
This cemetery was surveyed by Jo Church Dickerson about 1986.
Location: On Grain Bin Road in Kemper Community, near Lake View, in Dillon County, on the Hayes farm. Directions: From Lake View going south on Hwy #41, turn left on Grain Bin Road (SR17-278); cemetery is about 1-1/2 miles on right, not far from edge of the road in a cultivated field. Click on the map tab for Ed Anderson's GPS siting of this marker.
This is the burial ground of the first wife and at least one daughter of John T. Hayes; Martha Ann (Ford) Hayes and her daughter, Sarah N. Hayes share the one tombstone found here. If John T. is buried here he has no marker. He is said to have married a second time to Willette Huggins.
The cemetery has only the one marker. If there were other, wooden markers they have not existed for a very long time. It is not known to me if this is the burial place of John T. Hayes (and others in his family), or if he was buried elsewhere.
John T. was a son of Daniel Shaw Hayes who was a son of William H. Hayes and his first wife Amelia/Emily Thompson; Amelia was a daughter of Rev. Lewis Thompson and his wife Mary. William H. was a son of Benjamin Hayes whose family is the subject of a section in W. W. Sellers' "History of Marion County, South Carolina".
I currently have no information on the identity of Martha Ann Ford, except she was probably a granddaughter of William "Little Bill" Ford whose family resided near this Hayes family.
