The Brewer-Church family cemetery is located in Hillsboro Township, Dillon (formerly Marion) County, South Carolina, about 3 miles from Lake View town limit in Kemper Community, between Kemper Church Road (SC State Road 174) and Cooktown Road, in the woods on the northeast side of Harrod's (aka Hard's) Branch. Originally beside an early road, the cemetery is now nearly inaccessible, no sign of the old road exists. It is not shown on any maps, topographical or otherwise, that I have seen. The location on the map page is approximate. The cemetery is on private property and permission must be obtained to visit.
The Cemetery is on lands that were granted to John Elvington in 1801 and in the possession of Asa Brewer by 1810, but no record found of Brewer acquiring it. Brewer gave the land to his son, Henry Brewer, and it descended to Henry's son and only child, John Kemp Brewer.
Henry, his sister Celia (Brewer) Church, and Kemp's infant child are the only burials here with markers. Also said to be buried here are Henry's wife, Martha Jane Goodyear, and Celia's husband, James Church. Others in the Brewer family are probably buried here. It is not known if Asa and his wife are buried here or at the Joel B. Hayes Cemetery on the old David Brewer lands below Lake View.
Photos will be posted when I locate my old 35mm photos of the cemetery.
