Add PhotosThe Hunter Cemetery is an abandoned rural family cemetery in the Lewisburg District in North Caldwell, West Virginia, near US Route 60. The cemetery is off-road north of the highway. The cemetery was established on the 400 acres parcel of land known as "The Oaks Plantation", which was then owned for 80 years by the Henry B. Hunter family known as the Hunter Farm, hence the name Hunter Cemetery as it is known by locals. Later, although the plantation and buildings ceased to exist, the cemetery was named the Bostick Family Cemetery by the Greenbrier Historical Society in the 1990s after the Bostick family members buried there in the early 1900s. Today, it is overgrown and in poor condition with burials ranging from 1820s to 1920s. Including slaves and civil war soldiers who were injured and died during the short battle of the retreating confederates who burned the covered bridge at Caldwell in 1862. There are many graves with field stones or no markers. There is no deed, no association, no maintenance & no public parking. Access is with permission of the landowner (RBS Inc.).
