The Smith Family Graveyard is located on Nissequogue Hill. It served as the burial ground for members of the family of Richard Smith, patentee of Smithtown.
The oldest confirmed burial is that of Obadiah Smith, a son of the patentee, who drowned in 1680 in the Nissequogue River.
A diagram of the burial site from The Family of Richard Smith (by Frederick Kinsman Smith, 1967, page 28) provides a layout for 15 markers remaining in the early to mid 20th century (undated, but prior to 1940).
