Martin Cemetery
Wallace, Harrison County, West Virginia, USA
It is located on a hill of what used to be a meadow. Since it is now abandoned it is completely overtaken by the woods. The cemetery can only be reached by foot after a steep climb. It is located to the left off of a county road about a mile and a half west of Wallace, West Virginia. The current owners of the property have allowed me to go through their land to reach the cemetery itself.
I do not know who owns the property where the graves are located. I go down once a year to check on the condition of the graves and to keep the briers, wild roses, and sassafras from completely overrunning the space.
I placed markers on the four family graves that I know of in the 1990's. Two of the markers need to be changed because the dates are incorrect.
Adjacent to the Martin cemetery is another cemetery whose graves are completely overgrown. These are the graves of the Boggess family. This was a black family who took care of the entire cemetery up until 1969. They moved away after Onie Boggess died. He was the last person buried there in either cemetery.
