Add PhotosMembers of the Catholic faith were first served by missionaries from St. Boniface. Pioneers recall that priests came and said mass in any abode suitable for the occasion. Because neither Laurier nor McCreary had a priest, mass was celebrated for a while about eight miles from McCreary in a log house located on SW 32-21-15. Later, because of the distance, a temporary chapel was built at Laurier. For those south of the log mission house, Canadaville School and Bourgouin's store were used for services until a proper edifice was built in McCreary.
The earliest site used as a cemetery by those of the Catholic faith was situated on SE 21-21-15. After the establishment of the present Catholic cemetery on the SW 4-21-15 about 1905. the graves at the first site were opened by hand labour, and the remains were disinterred, then carefully transported by horse and wagon to be reinterred at the present site. The remains from several farm sites were also reinterred. This accounts for graves dated prior to 1905. Unmarked graves of unknown persons are evident.

A part of the story of the town and its inhabitants from the early days of European settlement through roughly 1987 is told in the volume "McCreary - Milestones and Memories -- A History of the Lands, Communities, and People of the Municipality of McCreary, Manitoba 1987", and for this cemetery, especially starting on page 43. A free digital version of this and many other Manitoba local history books can be found online in the University of Manitoba Digital Collections. There is also a list of such books organized by district and town name on the Manitoba Historical Society's website on their page entitled "Finding Aid: Manitoba Local History Books".
A list of burials in this cemetery is available from the Manitoba Genealogical Society, as transcribed by a member or members in 1989 and updated in 2020. Also available to MGS members is a searchable online database named the MGS Manitoba Name Index (or MANI).
