Garland Union Cemetery was organized in 1932. ln 1941, a large cement cross was erected to commemorate the cemetery and was later blessed by the Orthodox minister, Fr. D. Stratychuk. Volunteer work from church members during the summer helped keep the cemetery yard in good appearance; the grass is cut and weeds removed from the grave sites.
The cemetery is in 2 sections: North & South
(Source: Manitoba Genealogical Society [Adapted; 1996])
Dominion Land Survey coordinates: LSD03-11-31-22-W1
In the Rural Municipality of Ethelbert
A part of the story of the town and its inhabitants from the early days of European settlement through roughly 1985 is told in the volume "In Memory of our Pioneers - A History of Garland and District 1874 - 1985". A free digital version of this and many other Manitoba local history books can be found online in the University of Manitoba Digital Collections. There is also a list of such books organized by district and town name on the Manitoba Historical Society's website on their page entitled "Finding Aid: Manitoba Local History Books".
A list of burials in this cemetery is available from the Manitoba Genealogical Society, as transcribed by members in 1995 and updated in 1996.
